INSECURE 'LOWKEY FEELING MYSELF" REVIEW

INSECURE 'LOWKEY FEELING MYSELF" REVIEW

Aight enough my nigga.

Molly has gotten to the point where her chance for any growth as a character is gone. I’m just tired of the same character arc she has every fucking season. A man comes into her life and it brings out her insecurities and then her friends suffer. She fucks up her friendships and then there’s some pointless friend date towards the end with whatever song is on a Solange curated playlist as the soundtrack. It’s the same cycle. Literally like an abusive relationship. I’m over it.

I remember the reviews I had for the first season and I said Molly was the character on the show that had the most upside for growth on the show because of her lifestyle. She literally lives the prototypical American dream that’s foreign to a lot of black people because of poverty. She’s from the hood, graduated from a D1 University, has a 6 figure career, but despite checking all the boxes in her work life her dating and social life is a train wreck. Fast forward to today and she’s stagnant as a character. They tried to give her some depth with that awful and forced cheating angle with her parents but that made shit worse.

Growth doesn’t just mean only good things. Molly can really become a villain too and grow. Best example is Walter White from Breaking Bad in terms of character growth in a negative way. I just don’t like how her whole existence for 3 seasons revolves around only men and relationships with men and that’s it. So when they try to force the sisterhood shit with her, I’m not interested because the way her character is setup she wouldn’t give a fuck about that shit in real life. She chase relationship or situationship dick and stature that’s it. She’s the type of person who gets in a relationship and you never hear from her again. The only upside I can predict from her character is that viewers could potentially see a friendship actually dissolve. We saw the start of that by her commenting on Issa’s situation with Condola. There’s people who have been friends since Power Rangers and Double Dutch and when they became adults they grew apart for a multitude of reasons. The main reason can be that they’re sick of each other’s shit and have gained different perspectives on whatever situation they’re going through together. Sometimes people just not healthy for each other lives the older they get. Friendships are just as delicate as relationships and it’s debatable that they’re the most important. If we get to see a friendship actually end I think that would open up a lot of good discussions.

Maybe I’m tripping but Molly just got out of a situation with a man in an open relationship who was vocal about being in one and not hiding it from her and before that dealt with a man who was bi-sexual. But this guy says he dates other women and it throws her off? Huh? She has way more experience than the Asian guy so when he says he has a date Friday with someone else that information shouldn’t even make Molly flinch but here we are. She’s responding to that information the same way she would’ve responded in season 1. Side note. Do we have to keep adding “Bae” to the end of every nigga occupation, affiliation, or ethnicity? Who keeps writing this bullshit into the scripts for the past 4 seasons? Sounds like a 40 year old who loves Johnny Gill concerts keep writing this shit or wears nothing but t-shirts with melanin catchphrases on them.

Lawrence time is up. Yes I’m still the leader and President of The Almighty Lawrence Hive but I don’t see his purpose in the show anymore. He’s kinda just there as a plot device. The Lawrence hive is already victorious and there’s no point in continuing on with the W’s. This situation he’s in with Condola and Issa not really bout shit. Issa and Lawrence grew apart. They were broke together. Issa had more money but she was still broke. Lawrence leveled up and got his shit together in his work life but kept fucking up in his sex life until he met Condola who’s kinda the female leveled up version of him but not as green. Issa regressed in all aspects of life until the block party idea. The love triangle is a twist and I liked the way the ladies responded to the news of Lawrence because that would be anybody response. I’ve seen people in this exact situation get through it. It’s called being an adult. Everything don’t have to be so hateful or resentful. They not in love anymore and that’s okay. Well at least I think they’re not. They can still be friends though. In the end I don’t really see what can come from the triangle except Condola acting insane since we don’t know much about her.

I hope this entire season focuses more on Issa’s circle of friends and how awful all of them are. Condola is the best friend Issa had in terms of personality and behavior and she been in how many episodes? That just shows you how trash her friend circle is and that the only thing keeps them together is “time.” That’s telling you something. Kelli is funny but I haven’t seen too many good friendship qualities outta her. Tiffany is the complete opposite of what Issa stance is right now and is an uppity weirdo . Molly is the typical bird that’s always saying niggas ain’t shit and demands men to know what they want when she doesn’t know what she wants and she always wanna attempt to take accountability for her actions when it’s far too late. Nothing wrong with not knowing what you want but it’s wrong when you don’t but expect people to require what you don’t possess. Let’s talk about friendships and how complex they are and sometimes the reason why they hold a lot of people back from progression.

The Fat boy TSA agent was my favorite part of the episode cause all my big homies act just like him. Hella cool, always wanna chill, keep cool women around, he was that nigga. Ray J was hilarious but it’s Ray J. A living legend when is he not great?

This was a cool episode because it was about the title of the show and how people deal with their insecurities in different situations.

Aye why ol girl from Issa apartment complex hoe Tiffany like that? That was hilarious.

This was an awkward way to review but I’m so picky about shows and characters I had to get my shit off and rant. I’ll go back to my usual format next week.

Peace
