So yeah I finally finished the Netflix adaption of She’s Gotta Have It. It was the most requested show for me to check out and review. So fuck it let’s get it started.

Story is about Nola Darling a 20 something artist with 3 niggas in her rotation who she fucking.

One nigga is Jamie Overstreet he basically a dude who bored as fuck in his marriage so he's cheating on his wife with Nola and his wife is an annoying mothafucka. Only that woman’s mother could love that woman. Seriously. Jamie the most mature of the three dudes but the biggest piece of shit. He's the most needy and jealous. He’s an example of an asshole that’s pretending to be a good guy.

Nigga number 2 is Greer Childs. This nigga name is Greer. His name sounds like some shit you serve in a prison camp. He a model and photographer. He basically the typical moist bodied ass nigga that shops at Zara and plays Brian McKnight albums on dates. Don’t ever pass that nigga the aux cord. He the most annoying out of all three of the dudes. Self absorbed, talks like a Tyler Perry character, and his box fade dryer than white people chicken.

Number 3 is Mars Blackmon. Now I’m old and I grew up on the original Mars Blackmon on the Michael Jordan shoe commercials. That nigga was annoying back then and the new Mars Blackmon who’s half Puerto Rican half black is more annoying than the original. A few redeeming qualities but he basically that motor mouth nigga that scare all the hoes away at the parties. He the type that keep asking to hang with the gang but you tell him ain’t shit going on cause you actually want the women to give you the pussy.

As far as the acting goes it was hit or miss with almost everyone. The acting by Dewanda Wise who portrayed Nola was pretty decent. Sometimes her dialogue was a bit forced and didn’t flow well but she wasn’t terrible or unwatchable. All 3 of the dudes were hit or miss. I think Jamie was the best actor out of all of them. Mars was unwatchable for the first 3 episodes but he got tolerable. Greer seemed like he was gay but acting wise he wasn’t bad. Clorinda, The Mayor, and Opal were the best of the supporting cast acting wise. Rockaletta Moss was cool I just got tired of her talking in third person. Drove me fucking nuts. She was basically Duffman from The Simpsons.

This show starts off really slow to me. The first episode was basically almost a copy of the movie with exact quotes and everything and the first episode was awful to me. I almost gave up after it. I didn’t really get into the show until about halfway through. I liked the risk of exploring a woman fucking 3 dudes weekly because we’ve never really seen it in television from a black woman’s point of view. I’m like okay shorty bout to turn up and I’m gonna see the pros and cons of it from a woman’s point of view but I felt unsatisfied with the direction or lack of direction they went in with it. I felt they should've went deeper with the 3 relationships Nola had.

On some real shit. After a few episodes in I thought Nola Darling was kinda unlikeable. By the end of the season I thought she was a piece of shit. By the end of the season she was the biggest piece of shit on the show and I’ll explain why.

I like the IDEA of Nola Darling on this show. She’s just a 27 black woman in New York who’s just trying to figure shit out, hustling, creative, and that’s literally the only likable shit about her. It was literally like a tug a war of between do I like her or not. First she fucking her best friend ex (Mars). I don’t care if she agreed or not. That’s code that’s unbreakable.

The next example is the episode where she bought the black dress that was way outta her fucking budget after it was recommended to buy by her therapist (Heather Headly fine ass) and instead of wearing the dress for herself like she was advised to she made the dress about the 3 dudes and it felt like she was just wearing it just to see how they’d react instead of wearing it and feeling her mothafuckin self. It was supposed to be about not giving a fuck about what any nigga thinks when wearing it and she was testing them with it and it felt so lame to me. What are you testing them for if you have no desire to be with them exclusively? They're just dick appointments so treat them as such.

The shit where she flipped out on Greer was so overboard and unrealistic because one, a black woman in a fire ass dress and a nigga she fucking giving her a photo shoot like she is THEE SHOWSTOPPER AND MAIN EVENT is low key a woman’s dream. Women love pictures in this day and age. All of those photos would’ve been up on Instagram in 0.5 seconds with 80 and above likes in reality. Now it would be different if she was naked or something but she wasn’t. That scene was a reach. At that point I was like yeah she is kinda unlikeable. I think I would’ve loved her if she just owned up to being an asshole and was unapologetic about how she was but nah she was a fake "good" person to me. Nola basically had no soul and needed to grow up. Nola pussy must taste like Lucky Charms because any normal nigga would’ve been stopped fucking with her. Nola Darling in the movie is 100 times more likable than the Netflix show Nola.

The chemistry she had with the 3 dudes wasn’t really there and she really treated all those dudes like shit and honestly they didn’t deserve it. Mars was really a dope guy. Relationship wise that's who I think Nola should be with. Sure he did too much here and there and won’t shut the fuck up and needs to ease off the gas sometimes but his heart was in the right place and she treated him like shit. Greer was a straight up narcissist but after the episode with his dinner date with Nola he actually was an insightful, thoughtful nice guy. He’s just really conceited. When he shows maturity he’s pleasant. Jamie is a control freak, needy, and he’s full of shit. The moment he gets Nola he’d probably leave her soon after but when he paid for Nola's painting and his wife stopped the $10,000 check and Nola basically blamed him for everything bad in New York City over the phone he actually didn’t deserve that. He bought that painting because he really did love her and the way she barked on him was fucked up. Her rent being behind was on her not Jamie. The fact she depended on that money shows how immature she is. You didn’t even invite him to your show and he STILL bought your shit. She just never showed any accountability for any of the dumb shit she would do or say. For a woman who swears she's all about independence she surely didn't show that shit with her actions.

The series didn’t show these guys as bad men. In the movie these dudes were straight up bitch ass niggas. But in the show only Jamie was alluded to being a bad guy but eventually he started to grow up a bit as the series progressed. I could understand if the show showed these men as fucked up dudes that treated Nola like shit consistently so in return she would treat them like shit but that wasn’t the case. Nola was just unbearable and the Thanksgiving episode proved my point and confirmed everything I felt before I saw it.

Nola invites all 3 niggas over for Thanksgiving. This happens in the movie but in the movie these niggas are assholes and deserve this shit. On some funny shit it seems like some boss bitch shit. You got all 3 niggas you fucking eating a weak ass Thanksgiving dinner at your house. I ain’t see no dressing, baked macaroni. That’s not Thanksgiving she fed them niggas a glorified TV dinner. Anyway on the surface it appears powerful and impressive but it wasn't. It was just some selfish shit. That stunt Nola pulled only impressive to people who don’t know how to be honest and care what people think. I’ve been in rooms where 2 or 3 women I’m fucking are in the same room. I never switched up and I still do me. I’m not lying bout shit so what’s there to be nervous about?

But what I didn’t like about this episode is that it contradicts everything she preached about the whole series. One it was dishonest. She knew that not one of them would’ve came to that dinner if she told them the other niggas were coming. It was manipulative. If it was done to her she would’ve thrown a fit even if the guy’s reasoning was the same as hers. It showed that she doesn’t respect those dudes. She tried to twist it into some philosophical self healing bullshit of why it was happening but it was seriously the most narcissistic shit by far on the show. Greer wouldn’t even do some shit like that, that’s how sad that shit was.

She doesn’t respect those guys and I know it for the simple fact she didn’t invite Opal her female lover to that bullshit because Opal would’ve left in under 2 minutes. Instead Opal swoops in after the dinner and gets a nightcap. When she’s in trouble she calls Opal. She hints at steadiness with Opal. She invited Opal to her art show. She respects Opal but not those guys. She has all these rules for these guys and is allowed to disrespect them again and again nor care for their feelings  but they have to respect her at all costs. Then the painting she did of them with their dicks out called the "3 headed monster" was the most disrespectful shit but let one of these niggas call her “Baby Girl” then she’s ready to go insane. Imagine Jamie painting 3 women conjoined with 3 pussies and the feminist would’ve came out of her quick as fuck. It went against everything she was preaching about in her street campaign and it was degrading. This was coming from the same woman freaking out about getting pictures taken and feeling “Objectified.” Well how is the treatment and painting of these niggas any different?

Now the butt injection shit on the show was weird as fuck. That fake reality butt show was funny the first time but it got old real quick after they kept bringing it back throughout the series. I think they dropped the ball on that subject. Now I’ve made fun of fake asses in the past but I ain’t shit. The people who wrote this show better than me. I didn’t take the shit serious on the show. The way her ass exploded was more funny than serious. I can see if her ass started leaking on stage while dancing and she passed out head first off the stage from the infection then I would’ve been like “Oh shit.” Instead the serious matter of illegal butt injections was comical when they had her fall backwards and explode. It didn’t really teach anyone anything. A message wasn’t expressed to the viewer about how serious that shit is. They didn’t even show the girl thoughts on her self image after going through something so traumatic and embarrassing. That girl was a bitter dickhead though. She was an awful friend.

The shit I did like about the show was that the cinematography was mothafucking amazing. The soundtrack was smooth and dope. I liked the subjects of identity issues with black people, gentrification, body image, cat calling, therapy, the bitch ass police that the series addressed. I liked that the characters in the original film were in the series. Nola’s mom was Nola’s roommate in the movie and the Nola from the movie met Nola from the series at Nola’s art show. Those subjects were important to address but the downside to it is that covering those subjects took away from character development and chemistry between Nola and her lovers.

This show has a lot of EXTRA ass moments, some moments were outdated like the club Fat Joe owned and the way those girls were dancing. It felt hella early 1990ish. I think they need to update it in the future.

Those were the things I took away the most from the show. The movie better in my opinion. I would check out a second season based on the fact to see where they would go with it but they seriously have to focus on character development the next season.

Before I go I just gotta say this…… how the fuck Nola fucking 3 niggas and a woman and can’t pay rent? Nigga how? And damn Nola ain't got one dark skinned friend?

Anyway. I thought the show was average. 3 outta 5 fruit snacks.
