10 REASONS TO MOVE ON CREATIVELY
maxresdefault-1.jpg

Things run it’s course. It is what it is, and as much as you may not want to do this, it may be time for you to move on from a creative endeavor. Here are some signs that it’s time for you to move on creatively. This can apply to a team, a  project, a job, even a city or state. Almost everything.

YOU CAN’T BE “YOU”

I don’t know about anyone else but if I can’t be myself I will not do whatever I’m asked to do. I will leave some shit behind quickly and briskly. I don’t give a fuck what it is. When you can’t be yourself you will always fail and you will always lose clarity because you’re creating as someone you’re not.

BELIEFS ARE CONFLICTED

When what you believe in creatively and what you stand for is conflicted there are two ways you’re gonna respond. You’re either gonna leave or you're gonna justify some dumb shit that’s in the situation. It’s only so long you can justify some goofy shit before you start to look goofy.

GROWTH STUNTIN LIKE YA DADDY

If you in a place where you cannot grow anymore then GET THE FUCK OUT! Do not look back. Yes you’re are proud of what that situation or place has helped you become but it’s time to be selfish. Move on. If you’re gonna be addicted to anything to life be addicted to growth. As long as you not that nigga from Menace II Society and sucking dick for growth you should be good.

THE PAST > THE PRESENT

If the past looking better than the present. Quit.

If you talk about the past more than the present. Leave.

The past is not a reason to stick around. The memories are memories. It’s only so long that will continue to be your motivation to keep your creativity going. The good times happened. If they’ve stopped or they’re hard to come by now then leave and go make new ones somewhere else.

NOTHING CHANGES AFTER ADDRESSING IT 100 TIMES

If you have to keep addressing the same shit over and over and over again then all you’re doing is taking away time from what you could be creatively doing and getting better. Talking in circles and continuously explaining the same shit to people who choose not to change is pointless. If the environment you’re in isn’t responding to what you’re saying or doing then it’s not on you. That’s a burden that you don’t even need to deal with. Don’t even place that on your shoulders and just keep doing you.

YOU CAN’T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME YOU HAD FUN

Or fun doesn’t come around as often as it used to. What the fuck is the point of doing something if you’re not having fun doing it? If you gotta think back to the last time you had fun then it’s time to quit and move on.

MORE EMOTIONAL PAIN THAN JOY

If the space and environment you’re in is giving you more emotional pain and stress then how in the fuck are you going to be the best you? When you’re constantly exhausted mentally and emotionally weary it’s like having a ball and chain being placed on your heart. You will see hopelessness as the only option. Some people can live through it because they’ve trained themselves to do so or they’re used to the trauma but who wants to live that way by choice? No one. You’re putting what you’re creating at a disadvantage and it’s essentially like fighting with one arm against 3 people. Emotional stress is serious because this also takes a toll on your body physically. It’s just not all in your head and in your spirit. It will evolve and start to harm you physically in some way or form. It’s okay to embrace emotional pain and express it through creativity but there’s a time limit to that. When I tell you to embrace the pain I mean just acknowledge that it’s there and after you do that it’s time to get up and create a lane that will remove you from the source of that emotional pain and stress. If you do not remove yourself from a project, a person, a place, a job that continuously stresses you the fuck out then you are robbing yourself of living and being the greatest creative you can be.

ALL AVENUES AND OPTIONS ARE EXHAUSTED

I don’t wanna put anyone or my business out here but I wanna talk about a conversation I had with my homie and one of my favorite artist Indiana Rome. I told him he should leave St.Louis and we don’t deserve him. Not on some hateful shit, I just felt he’s exhausted every option here. It’s time for a change. The nigga performed at Chaifetz Arena already. What’s next? A performance at the top of the Arch? He performs a lot and when there’s only like 3 venues here, then what more can he do? Time for a new chapter somewhere else. He’s exhausted all his options and avenues probably multiple times over. When you've exhausted all your options in a situation then it’s time for you to find a situation where there are more options in abundance. If you’re trying to create more options in a space where someone or something is not budging then go to a place where the options are available instead of wasting your most valuable asset which is time.

WHEN YOUR HAPPINESS IS COMPROMISED

If you have to put up with some shit where your happiness is compromised then don’’t do it. Happiness is not meant to be compromised. I know that sounds really fucking selfish but that’s what I believe. Happiness is not meant to be compromised it’s meant to be complimented. Whatever you seek in life it’s supposed to work with your happiness not against it or change it. It’s supposed to meet your happiness in the middle. If you have to sacrifice your happiness creatively then in my opinion you need to leave it alone.

THE FUTURE > PRESENT

It’s the same as the past > present. I caught myself doing this over the past year. I thought about the future of things so much that I asked myself “What if I’m thinking about the potential of something being great in the future because it’s helping me escape the reality?” What I mean is that I already think I know the answer to what may happen and that’s that the present is correct and not much difference will be made in a couple more years down the road. It's okay to be excited about the future but If I’m in a place where I’m thinking about the future more than the present then that is just as bad as me living in the past. All we have is now.
