THE FACULTY REVIEW

“Only through conformity among the masses can the unified state offer the benefits of power order and security”

This quote was read in this movie and it sums up the theme of the film perfectly.

As a kid The Faculty was a film that niggas just wanted to see because Usher was in it. We gotta keep it 100. The nigga had just came out with “Nice & Slow” and “My Way” this nigga was on white bitches might try to frame him levels of fame back then.

Outside of Mr.Confessions The Faculty is one of the greatest horror movies ever created and the reason I say this is because this movie has so much replay value. It was great in the 90’s and it’s even better today.

The Faculty is a movie about parasitic aliens trying to takeover a high school by hiding in human bodies.

The Faculty has one of the greatest intros to a horror movie ever. I’m not glazing when I say this. It really sets the film off in a a fire way and sets the tone immediately. Somebody gets stabbed 5 minutes in. Damn near all the action scenes somebody loses a limb.

The Football coach is the first victim of the alien and it makes sense because the football team is the heart of the school. In a scene with the principal and 2 other administrators she makes budget cuts from every department except the football team because the football is the only thing the entire town supports.

What I love about The Faculty is that it has no shame in its tropes and influences. This movie pulls from ….

Invasion of the body snatchers

Men in black

The Breakfast Club

The X files

The Thing

Psycho

The Shining

This movie is really 90’s as fuck. From the soundtrack to the lingo to the hair cuts. Look at Josh Hartnett’s (Zeke) haircut in this movie. He looks like he tortures squirrels in his backyard. Speaking of Zeke, he is clearly fucking his teacher and that bitch needs to be locked up. I know the aliens are predators but that bitch is the real predator.

The way The Faculty is a Sci-Fi slasher mystery thriller whodunnit horror film amazes the fuck outta me. The casting was very on point too. Robert Patrick as the football coach who is known as one of the best sci-fi villains T-1000 in Terminator 2 and you had Piper Laurie who played Carrie’s mother in the horror classic “Carrie” as a school teacher. There’s so many famous ass mothafuckas in this movie. Jon Stewart, Christopher MacDonald, Salma Hayek, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett. Elijah Wood got his role in Lord of The Rings because of The Faculty.

The main cast is literally just like the Breakfast Club cast.

The nerd

The rebel

The jock

The princess

The emo outcast

The new girl

In a movie where the overall goal is to take over the human race and have them be apart of a hive. The characters are all outcast in someway. Casey is a nerd and doesn’t have many friends. Zeke is a drug dealer and is a loner. Stoney pretends to be gay so people can leave her alone. Stan is the epitome of having hundreds of friends but still feeling alone. Delilah is the only character that does not experience isolation and honestly fits the best with aliens cause she’s a follower. She only dates Stan because of a bullshit societal expectation that the head cheerleader always dates the football captain. Mary Beth is the new kid and knows no one so she’s isolated. They’re all characters that work against the hive.

The name of the school football team is the hornets & that represents hive/hive mind that they want the humans to be & just like hornets, work for a Queen/leader.

Also the main characters are all pretending to be something they’re not just like the aliens taking over human bodies and trying to appear as if they’re normal humans. Stokely is not being herself. Stan is not being himself cause he hates football. Zeke is actually a very good chemist and a nerd at heart but decides to be a drug dealing rebel.

The alien leader sees our main characters of outcasts and views them as lost souls who really need some sense of belonging. The alien leader is  like a predator. Playing with its prey. The alien leader is just like them. It’s an outcast. Its planet is gone and dried up. It’s alone. Needing somewhere to belong.

The stakes are high. The soundtrack is nostalgia. The horror is entertaining. It is action packed. The characters are cool and the movie is weird. The Faculty is a classic guaranteed to jack you up.
